Grandpa Dennis and Grandma Linda rented a cabin (no wait it was a house...definitely a house) and planned a trip for the family to Lewis and Clark Lake by Yankton, SD. We arrived with the kids late on Thursday afternoon and enjoyed exploring the house and checking out it's surroundings (There were a bunch of animals across the road in a sort of "wildlife" area.) Later on that evening Uncle Adam, Aunt Sarah, and cousins Nolan, Landon, and Mabel arrived along with Grandpa Dennis (Grandma Linda and Aunt Hunter were already there when we arrived).
The first night was quiet, and we all got settled into the house. Friday morning we headed down to the local beach and enjoyed some fun in the water and the sand. After some lunch, Grandma Linda's brother and his wife got their pontoon out and invited us out for a ride. Grandma Linda and Grandpa Dennis stayed at the house and watched Aubrey, Nolan, and Mabel while the rest of us went out on the boat (minus Hunter she had to go back home to work). The ride was fun, but it got pretty hot so we stopped and jumped off the boat to cool off in the 67 degree water! Caleb the daredevil that he is joined us in the water (that was at least 10 feet deep). That night we had s'mores and Caleb actually decided to try it (he's had the opportunity to taste s'mores before but had refused), and he loved them!
By Saturday morning Aunt Hunter and Uncle Houston were back to have fun too. Some of the group headed to the fist hatchery to explore and some of us stayed behind at the house. Later that afternoon some of us headed on down to the beach to try to stay cool. (It was such a hot weekend!) We also explored the lake coast near our house, but it took quite a hike to get down there. Caleb made one trip, but had to be carried most of the way (so that only happened once).
By Sunday morning it was time for most of us to pack up and head back to the real world. The four hour trip home was a bit loud, but the kids and adults had had such a great time we didn't mind it so much. We hope as the kids get older, we can take this trip again and continue to have more fun together!
